Exclusive Interview With The Vice JunkiesWe’re happy to have an exclusive interview with Derek Devin from popular pop/rock/dance band The Vice Junkies.

Welcome to Independent Music Promotions, Derek. You’ve had some major success in the past with Smile Empty Soul and you’re poised for success again with your new band the Vice Junkies. How has the response been thus far to the new band?

So far the response has been amazing. We released our debut video only 3 weeks ago and already have had over 22,000 views from fans. Our Facebook fans have also been amazing with really helping us promote. We couldn’t do it without them.

Please tell us about your new music video.

Our music video is for our debut single, “She Knocked Me Out”. It is about a night that I think everyone has experienced. Having a little “too much” fun and winding up in the morning not quite where you had hoped. It was a blast shooting and my dog even made a cameo! Ha! The response has been better than I anticipated. People are really loving the song.

What have you found works well for you as far as promotion goes?

What we found works best for promotion is getting our fans involved. Friends tell their friends and down the line it goes. We do all of this for them and just want to “give back” as much as possible. I remember what it’s like to have a favorite band, I still do, and have them take time out to say hey or sign a poster or bring them backstage. I think our fans see that in us and want to a part of helping us succeed.

Who in music do you most admire most and why?

Ha, this a a tough one, but hands down I have to say Animal from the Muppets in my favorite drummer. He is crazy up there with his high rise drums! That’s how I play…really hard, pouring every ounce of me out into my kit.

Do you have any advice for aspiring independent musicians who may feel disillusioned or discouraged at times?

I do have some advice for aspiring musicians. Remember why you are doing it. For the love I hope. I find when you get down, it’s because you have expected something and not gotten it. Just stay true to your passion. Know where you are going and keep your head down and get to work. Do it till it’s done and work on your band and your craft every single day…NO MATTER WHAT!
